Problem Solving 101

by Dana Dorough

“Stop, look, and listen before you cross the street. Use your eyes, use your ears, then quickly use your feet!”  I learned this poem in the second grade, and remembered it my whole life, later using it to teach my own children how to cross the street safely.  But today, as I was spending time with God this poem came to mind with a new spiritual meaning.  We are supposed to go to God with all of our problems (Philippians 4:6).  This means we have to STOP trying to fix our own problems because we will never be able to do that. LOOK to God for the answers we need. LISTEN to what he tells us to do (Psalm 46:10). Then QUICKLY USE OUR FEET to obey His direction for our lives (John 10:27).  We have to learn to lay all of our problems at the foot of the cross and then be still and listen for God to tell us what to do.  We can’t hear Him if we don’t stop and take the time to listen, because that is just not spiritually safe.
