As a Christian, there is nothing I enjoy more than worshipping Christ.  I love to lift my hands to heaven and sing to Jesus with all of my heart.  I love to experience God’s presence and experience His supernatural peace that surpasses all understanding.  Yet, there is so much more to worship than singing to our Lord.

In Romans 12:1, the Apostle Paul writes:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship.

What Paul is saying is that offering our bodies as a living sacrifice is spiritual worship.  This expands the idea of worship from simply singing to our entire Christian lifestyle.

The Greek word for worship is proskuneo and it looks like this in the original Greek:

This is a compound word meaning, “to draw close to” (pros) and “to kiss” (kuneo).  The idea is that we draw close to the Face of Christ in order to kiss Him.  Thus, worship is an intimate expression of our personal love for God.  Worship is anything we say, do or think that expresses our love for God.  In short, worship is loving God.  In fact, worship is more than something we do, worship is who we are; lovers of God.

The same is true of our earthly relationships.  For example, I do more than tell my wife I love her, I show her by my actions.  If all I did was say, “I love you,” but I never backed it up with actions, then my words would have no meaning.  The same is true of worship.  If we sing about our love for Christ on Sunday, but our actions through out the week say otherwise, then our songs of worship are empty.

When the Scripture says, “faith without works is dead,” it is referring to those who talk the talk but fail to walk the walk.  In other words, all talk and no action is stupid.  I am thankful that you are wiser than that.

Here’s the bottom line, when our thoughts turn to Christ we enter in to worship.  When we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and do the things He desires of us, that is worship.  When our hearts overflow into songs of love for our Creator, that is worship.  The best news of all is that we no longer have to wait until Sunday morning to sing songs of worship.  Our entire life can now be a beautiful song of worship.

My prayer for you is that your whole life will be an act of worship.  I pray you will offer yourself as a living sacrifice to Jesus, thinking of Him, speaking of Him and living for Him every day.  May all you do and think and say, cause your spirit to draw close to the Face of Christ.

You are the one God loves!

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matt 22:37
