We believe the Bible (Old and New Testament) is completely and totally inspired by the Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible is exactly the way God planned it to be. We believe that God is perfectly capable of controlling His Own revelation and truth to humankind.
We believe that God is all knowing, all powerful and always present; He alone knows and sees all things.
We believe the God of the Bible is the Creator of all things and that He is Purposeful in all He does.
We believe God created all people in His image so that He could love us and have a relationship with us.
We believe that all people have sinned against God and need a Savior to restore them to God.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son and our Savior, that He was born of the virgin Mary, lived among humankind, and died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins to restore us to our Creator.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only Savior and that He is the only way back to God.
We believe that Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit to empower us to live for God everyday.
We believe that God is good and forgiving, loves us unconditionally, and that it is a joy to know Him.
We believe that the joy of the Lord is our strength and that living for God is the best thing ever.
We believe His Spirit in us causes us to be like Christ; loving and forgiving, patient and kind.
We believe that there is no real love, life, purpose, meaning or happiness apart from God.
We believe that our gatherings, what people call "church", should be more like an orderly party than a funeral service (see Psalms 150).
We believe that it is part of every Christian's life to tell other people about God's love and forgiveness.
We believe that one day Christ will return to earth and take us to be with Him forever in Heaven.
We believe Heaven will be the most awesome experience we will ever have, because we will be with our Lord who will love us forever!

Rocky Mount was organized in 1851. It was originally located a few miles from its present location on Highway 158 near Lake Harding. The church was named Rocky Mount because the first building was located on a rocky hill facing east.
In 1868, the church moved to its present location on property donated by Mr. Will Murphy. The original church building was given to the slaves in the community. Ten years later the new church caught fire and burned to the ground. The church was then rebuilt on its original foundation.
In 1926, the Methodist Church at Mechanicsville also caught fire and burned. For the next fifteen years, Rocky Mount served both the Methodist and Baptist congregations. During that time, services were only held once a month. In the late 1950's the Reverend Denny Helton led the church to begin having services every Sunday.
Lightning struck the church in 1980 causing extensive damage to the building. During repairs the sanctuary was enlarged and Sunday School classes were added. By 1983 a Fellowship Hall was completed and Wednesday night suppers were added to the services. In 1998 the original building was added to once more creating a meeting room for the youth and two new bathrooms. The renovations allowed us to expand our ministry to both members and the Lake Harding community.
In 2005 our new sanctuary was completed and dedicated to the Lord. From 2007 to 2008 our original church building was remodeled. The old sanctuary was converted into a multipurpose room, a new kitchen was added, the fellowship hall enlarged, and the children's class rooms and nursery were refurbished. An outside play area was added to the children's area and a covered picnic area was added behind the new sanctuary.
During the churches 150 year plus ministry, we have sought to spread the Good News of Christ, to reach out and help those in our community, and to be a witness to all people. We are incredibly thankful for God's blessings throughout the years and we look forward to many more years of service in His Kingdom!
